Suggest a Calculator
Have an idea for a calculator that doesn't exist yet? Tell us about it and we'll build it for free.
SpeedCalcs has grown into a library of 300+ free calculators covering everything from home improvement and auto maintenance to pets, food, crafts and obscure hobbies most other sites never bother with.
Most of these tools exist because someone ran into a real problem, searched for a calculator to solve it, found nothing useful and decided to ask for one instead. That's how this page works.
If you've ever thought "there should be a calculator for this" this is where you say so.
Why Suggest a Calculator?
Big calculator sites tend to focus on the obvious stuff like mortgage payments, BMI, tip splitting.
The tools that actually save people time are usually the specific, slightly niche ones: figuring out how much fur fabric a fursuit needs, calculating thread length for fly tying, working out nib angles for calligraphy, sizing a turtle tank correctly or estimating how much wood a woodturning bowl will actually use once it's turned down.
None of those existed anywhere online until someone asked for them. They now get steady search traffic every month because the people searching for them couldn't find an answer anywhere else.
That's the gap this page exists to fill. If you have a specific calculation you've had to do by hand, in a spreadsheet or with a half broken tool somewhere else it's worth five minutes to suggest it.
How It Works
- You submit your idea using the form below: what it should calculate, what inputs it needs and why you need it.
- We review it for feasibility and whether it's something people are actually searching for.
- We build it, usually within a couple of weeks depending on complexity and queue length.
- It goes live as a free tool on SpeedCalcs and you're welcome to be credited as the person who suggested it if you'd like.
- You get notified (if you leave an email) once your calculator is published and ready to use.
There's no cost to suggest a calculator, no limit on how many you can submit and no obligation if we can't build it or it's already covered by an existing tool, we'll let you know why.
What Makes a Good Calculator Suggestion
Not every idea turns into a calculator but the ones that do tend to share a few things in common:
- It involves a real calculation not just a lookup or a static answer (e.g., "how much X do I need for Y" rather than "what is X").
- It's specific: "A gardening calculator" is too broad. "How much potting soil I need for a raised bed of a given size and depth" is exactly right.
- It solves a recurring problem something people in a hobby, trade or daily task run into more than once.
- It's hard to find elsewhere: If five other sites already have a clean version of this tool, we'll likely point you to those instead of duplicating them.
- You can explain the math (roughly). You don't need the formula, just a clear idea of what goes in and what should come out.
Examples of Calculators Built From Suggestions
A good chunk of the catalog started exactly this way:
- A fursuit fur yardage calculator for costume makers estimating fabric needs
- A fly tying material calculator for anglers planning thread and material per fly
- A calligraphy nib angle calculator for hobbyists dialing in pen geometry
- A turtle tank size calculator for new reptile owners sizing enclosures correctly
- A woodturning bowl blank calculator for woodworkers estimating usable wood from raw stock
None of these are big topics. All of them now rank for searches that had no good answer before which is exactly the kind of idea this page is looking for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this free?
Yes. Suggesting a calculator costs nothing and if we build it, the calculator itself will be free to use like everything else on SpeedCalcs.
How long does it take to build?
It depends on complexity. Simple single-formula tools can go live in a few days. More involved calculators with multiple variables or unusual logic can take a couple of weeks.
Will I be told if my idea is rejected?
If we're not able to build it usually because it's too broad, already covered elsewhere or not really a "calculator" we'll explain why if you've left contact details.
Can I suggest a calculator for my profession or niche hobby?
Yes. Niche, specific, slightly unusual ideas are exactly what this page is for. The more specific the better.
Do I need to know the formula?
No. A clear description of the inputs and the result you're trying to get is enough. We'll work out the math.
Can I get credit for the idea?
If you'd like, yes let us know in the form and we'll credit you when the calculator goes live.
What if I need a custom calculator just for my own business or project not for public use?
That's a different service. Check out our custom calculator creation service for private or business-specific tools.
Submit Your Idea
Fill out the short form below. The more detail you give us about what it should calculate and why you need it, the faster we can turn it into a working tool.
Don't see your suggestion turn into a calculator right away? Don't worry every idea gets reviewed and the backlog gets worked through continuously as new tools go live on SpeedCalcs.
