Visa Fee Calculator: Your Complete Guide to Global Travel Costs
Budgeting for an international trip means more than just flights and hotels visa costs can catch travelers completely off guard. The final bill rarely matches the headline fee.
Between biometric appointments, third-party service centers, and fluctuating exchange rates the actual amount leaving your account is almost always higher than expected.
The Visa Fee Calculator cuts through that confusion. Built around official government fee schedules it gives you an itemized cost breakdown for five of the world's most visited destinations: the United States, the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia updated to reflect current 2026 pricing.
Here is everything you need to know about what drives visa costs, how different countries structure their fees and how to get the most out of this tool before you apply.
HOW TO USE THE VISA FEE CALCULATOR
Getting an accurate estimate takes less than a minute. Work through these steps in order:
Step 1 — Pick your destination. Each of the five destinations has its own tab: US, Schengen, UK, Canada and Australia. Select the one that matches where you are headed.
Step 2 — Enter your applicant details. Choose the visa category that fits your travel purpose then select the applicant's age group and, where the option appears, your nationality group. Some countries charge differently based on where you hold a passport.
Step 3 — Add everyone traveling. Change the number of applicants to reflect your full group. The calculator will automatically factor in any family pricing caps or group discounts that apply.
Step 4 — Switch on any applicable extra charges. Use the checkboxes to include biometric fees or third-party service center costs from agencies like VFS Global or BLS International, depending on your country of application.
Step 5 — Choose a display currency. See your total in USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, or AUD whichever makes it easiest to match against your actual travel budget.
UNITED STATES VISA FEES BREAKDOWN
US non-immigrant visa fees are set by visa category, not by travel duration. The B1/B2 visa used for tourism, short business trips and family visits carries a base MRV (Machine Readable Visa) fee of $185.
Temporary workers applying under the H, L, O, P, Q, or R categories pay $205 while E Treaty Trader and Treaty Investor visa applicants are charged $315. Those applying for a K Fiancé(e) visa will pay $265.
One charge many applicants overlook is the Visa Integrity Fee (VIF), introduced in 2025 and carried forward into the current 2026 structure. Where applicable, this adds $250 per person on top of the base MRV fee.
When you submit your DS-160 online application form, payment goes through the embassy's designated portal. Keep in mind this calculator is scoped to non-immigrant categories.
Immigrant visas covering green cards and permanent residency follow a completely separate fee structure that includes petition and domestic processing costs not reflected here.
EUROPE: SCHENGEN VISA COSTS AND SERVICE FEES
A single Schengen visa opens access to 29 European countries, but the fee you pay depends on two things: your age and your passport.
Adult applicants aged 12 and over pay the standard rate of €90. Children between 6 and 11 are charged €45. Kids under 6 are processed at no cost.
Passport holders from countries covered by a Facilitated Visa Agreement including Albania, Armenia, Georgia, and Ukraine, among others — qualify for a reduced base rate of €40, regardless of age tier.
Beyond the embassy fee, most Schengen applicants deal with a mandatory third-party submission process. Agencies like VFS Global or BLS International collect documents and biometric data on behalf of embassies and they charge for the service.
The average cost runs around €35 per applicant. The calculator lets you include this automatically so your total reflects the real out-of-pocket amount.
UNITED KINGDOM VISA APPLICATION COSTS
The UK structures visitor visa fees by how long the visa is valid, not by the specific dates of your trip. Every option is multi-entry, so the price difference comes down to the length of coverage you want.
The four standard validity tiers are:
A visa valid for up to 6 months costs £127 per person. A 2-year visa is priced at £475. A 5-year visa runs £848. The longest option, valid for 10 years, is priced at £1,059.
For families the math is straightforward — UK fees do not have a family cap so the total is simply the per person rate multiplied by the number of applicants. Use the UK tab to calculate group costs instantly for any validity tier.
CANADA VISITOR VISA AND BIOMETRIC FEES
Canada's fee structure is among the most family friendly of the five destinations in this calculator. The base visitor visa fee is $100 CAD per person but once a group reaches five or more applicants applying together the total visa fee is capped at $500 CAD regardless of how many additional people are included.
Biometrics are required for almost every applicant and cost $85 CAD individually. Families get a significant break here too: when two or more family members apply at the same time, the combined biometric fee is capped at $170 CAD.
Both caps are applied automatically in the calculator. Increase the applicant count and check the biometrics box the tool handles the thresholds for you.
AUSTRALIA SUBCLASS 600 VISA FEES
The standard route for tourists and short-stay business visitors heading to Australia is the Subclass 600 Visitor Visa and the fee depends entirely on where you are when you apply.
Applicants submitting from outside Australia pay AUD 200. If you are already in the country and applying onshore — either to extend your current stay or to secure a new Subclass 600 the fee rises to AUD 500.
For those researching the Temporary Skill Shortage (482) visa: that is outside the scope of this tool. The 482 involves employer sponsorship, nomination charges and a different applicant fee structure that does not apply here.
Once you are ready to apply, the official submission portal is ImmiAccount accessed through an immi login on the Department of Home Affairs website.
UNDERSTANDING CURRENCY AND EXCHANGE RATES
Because each country prices its visa in its own currency, travelers regularly underestimate how much they will actually spend once conversion enters the picture.
The multi-currency display in this calculator lets you view your full cost in USD, EUR, GBP, CAD or AUD using approximate 2026 exchange rates as a baseline.
Bear in mind that currency conversion fee charged by your bank or card provider is separate and not something any visa calculator can predict.
The rate embedded in this tool gives you a reliable planning figure, but the exact deduction from your account will reflect the live visa exchange rate in effect on the day you submit your payment or attend your interview.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS AND NEXT STEPS
All visa application fees are non-refundable. A denial does not entitle you to a refund, and neither does withdrawing your application in most cases plan your budget assuming the fee is spent the moment it is paid.
This calculator covers the most common fee components: base MRV or application fees, biometric charges and standard service center costs.
Depending on your nationality, some visas also carry reciprocity fees issuance charges applied after approval which vary by passport and are not included in the base figures shown here.
Before making any payment, cross check the amounts shown here against the official embassy or consulate website for your destination. Fee schedules do change and official sources always take precedence.
